Hey! I am moving to the Jackson area and I love to play disc golf! I looked up courses online and found two in the area. I was wondering if there were any more that I was not aware of?? I love this site and can't wait to get in a tournament! Thanks! Merrie Leigh
Hey Merrie, good to hear another DG'er is coming to Jack-town. There are several places to play disc golf in the area. Some are well established, and some are in a building/growing stage. The group has a random draw doubles tourney every Sunday morn at 9 am at the Rez. Look forward to meeting you.
1. The REZ - at Pelahatchie Shore Park in Brandon. more info This is the main J.U.D.G.E.S. course; full 18; championship caliber. 2. Lefluer's Bluff - more info Older course with some maintenance issues. Not maintained by the JUDGES; full 18; pay $3 to play. 3. Brighton Park - in Clinton. more info 9 hole course that is very beginner friendly. 4. Jackson Academy - This is a brand new course on the JA campus on Ridgewood Rd in Jackson. I think it's 9 holes and on the shorter side. 5. Pearl - This is a work-in-progress right now; there are 10 holes there now; located at Center City Drive and Hwy 80. This one is kind of hard to find, so here goes...turn off hwy 80 onto Center City Dr. Drive about 1/2 mile until you get to a sharp left. Follow the road to the left and it will make a quick right. Follow the right. At this point you'll start to see the ball golf course. Follow the road past the ball golf course and you will come to a gate. Past this gate are some soccer fields, baseball fields, and the DG course. Go through the gate and take a left. Park near the soccer fields on the left. If you walk along the fence of the soccer field you will eventually see the first basket in the woods. Tees are dirt/grass with no signs right now. You might see some little orange flags in the ground to designate the tee box. 6. Hinds Community College - in Raymond. This one is in the works and is nearing completion. It will be a full 18 holes on the CC campus. I haven't seen it yet, so I can't tell you where to go.
--- for a short drive ---
7. Moccasin Bend - in Roosevelt State Park in Morton, MS more info This is about 30 mins east of Brandon, down I-20 and is well worth the drive. Full 18; tournament caliber. JUDGES maintained. 8. Holmes Community College - in Goodman, MS. This is a 9 basket course (with two sets of tees per basket). It's on the campus of the CC in Goodman. directions & more info 9. Redbone - in Vicksburg. I have not been there, but I've heard good things. Private 9 hole course; call ahead. more info
The wife and I just moved here about 2 weeks ago. I was planning on rolling out to find a course tomorrow as I am off. I was pleased to find out about the course on the resevior and to find out that it's awesome. Plus it's only like 5 miles from our house. When is the next event? We know absolutely nobody out here and it would be cool to get involved w/ the DG scene here. Follow Me On Twitter Here www.twitter.com/OtownPyle
OtownPyle, I myself have brought the wife here from Arizona. I've been in town before but have now come back for a long while. If you are looking for a game; hit me up. takemetomygroovy.com
My invite is to everyone. Sorry about the single out of one person. As for the courses around here. The Rez_is a great mix. Open and tight. Pearl_small but fun. Bright Park,Clinton_open and short. Moccasin Bend_didn't enjoy it much. Some cool holes. LeFluer's Bluff_Small tee box if any. Front nine is wide open. Back nine is in the woods. Mostly short. You will have to exit the front nine-main park- and drive around to the back. Suckage!
Groovy, Thanks so much for the info! I cannot wait to get down there and play! Do you know of any stores around the Jackson/Madison area that sell discs?
Groovy, Otown, and Merrie, look forward to meeting y'all soon. Sunday Morning at 10am is the new time for the double mini tourney held by the club. Kinda chilly lately, but still fun.
For places to buy plastic. 1. the JUDGES - they have a decent supply of discraft, innova, and others. Someone will bring some inventory to the Sunday event each week. 2. Play it again - on County Line; has a super selection. They were the title sponser in the 09 MSDG Championship, so they are supporters of the local scene. 3. Timberland Campground - across the road from the Rez; in the campground office. 4. Dick's - small selection of mainly DX innova's 5. Academy Sports on County Line - small selection of mainly DX innova's 6. Buffalo Peak - in Highland Village in NE Jackson - they have a good selection of champion and dyed innova discs
ML, Well, there you are. More stores than I knew about.
Manglin, I'll see you this Sunday but I will not be playing with you guys. I'm getting a lot people into the sport and we're in the habit of meeting by 10 to drive out there (Rez). Maybe soon another five people will join the club and bring more dough on Sundays.
